ScoutLink Teamspeak

English manual

New techniques make it possible to talk to your Scoutlink friends via VoiceChat! You don't need a high speed internet connection and expensive equipment, a standard computer will do fine.

The things you need to participate:

  • A PC with soundcard
  • An internet connection
  • A mike and speakers connected to your soundcard (or a”headset”: headphones with built-in mike)

The software: TeamSpeak 2, downloadable via http://www.goteamspeak.com/ The software TeamSpeak2 is available for Windows, Mac and Linux.

The Windows client: download The Linux client: download The beta Mac Client: download

Installation

Install the program and make sure your mike is correcty attached, installed and switched on.

Start the program. You will see a screen containing three purple colored sections and a menu bar. Click on “Connect”. You'll get a smaller screen titled “Connect to Server”. Right-click and select “Add new server”. Label the new server “SL Voicechat”, the adress is “teamspeak.scoutlink.net” and your nickname will be our own irc nickname. Click “Connect” and you're off!

Quickstart

By default you arrive in “Please join another channel”. Choose the channel you want to visit by double clicking on it. For example click #English to visit the English channel. If all is well you should be able to hear other people talking and you will notice, if you're microphone is working, a green light in front of your nick will light when you talk. This means you are talking and the other people in the channel can hear you. Choose “Settings” and “Sound input/output settings”. Here you can adjust the sound volume, and when to send sound to the channel. By default you will send sound as soon you start talking. Often you will send unwanted sounds, for example when you're playing music or when you breath. If you want to prevent this, select “push to talk” and “set”. You can select a key. When you press this key you can talk, comparable to a mobile radio.

Help!!

Help!! I can hear everybody talking but i cannot speak! Check the windows mixer and check if the microphone slider is up and if the mike isn't muted. Linux users may use their distribution's standard mixer (e.g. aumix). It helps to keep a close distance between your mouth and the microphone and try not to talk too loud. Others will report if your sound quality is bad :) It is NOT possible to talk with multiple people at the same time, this will produce jitters and clicks. So try not to chat throught each other. Chanops are present on the channels. You can recognize them by (R CA) or (R SA).
